Appreciating the beauty in a naturally imperfect world.

My process explores concepts of imperfection, beauty, and utility.

At the Refind Studio, I work with aged, natural, and man-made materials to fabricate one-of-a-kind furniture & functional art. Every thing has a story, and my process combines these story lines to create unique, analog objects for your home.

The reFind Studio is filled with various odds and ends, both man-made and natural, that have found refuge under the eaves. As with any such place, the objects discuss among themselves, and I often arrive to find that a consensus has been reached on which things will combine in new ways to create objects that are both functional and odd.

Most of the work I do is speculative and stems from using materials I’ve found that gel in my shop into something interesting. Everything I create ends up having visible traces of past lives. Shiny new construction or flawless, highly finished furniture is for others to obsess over.

There are always several projects on hold in my shop at any given time, as well as plenty of raw materials awaiting the creative impulse. Hard to pin down exactly what I do beyond that, since everything I make is unique. Truthfully, I’ve been so busy over the last year that I’ve made nothing new (although I just made furniture on-site for a friend’s new coffee shop in Paonia, CO, in August.

I use man-made and natural materials, combining wood, metal, and stone, and my shop is filled with old doors, windows, mirrors, parts of lights, rusted objects, driftwood, pipes, and remnants of ancient furniture, boxes, wire, old tools, and lots of fasteners and hardware curiosities. Out of those things have come indoor and outdoor furniture, unusual lights, shelving, and many sculptural objects, mounted collections, and even trivial but fascinating driftwood pens.
